In this glossary we will see some concepts of electronics that we will commonly use in our classes and it will be very important to learn them

AC voltage

Alternating current (AC) is an electric current which periodically reverses direction and changes its magnitude continuously with time in contrast to direct current (DC) which flows only in one direction. Alternating current is the form in which electric power is delivered to businesses and residences, and it is the form of electrical energy that consumers typically use when they plug kitchen appliances, televisions, fans and electric lamps into a wall socket.

Admittance
noun
In electrical engineering, admittance is a measure of how easily a circuit or device will allow a current to flow. It is defined as the reciprocal of impedance, analogous to how conductance & resistance are defined.
Example: Impedance consists of real part (resistance) and imaginary part (reactance). The symbol for impedance is the Z symbol, and the symbol for admittance is the Y symbol.

Amplifier

Amplifier, in electronics, device that responds to a small input signal (voltage, current, or power) and delivers a larger output signal that contains the essential waveform features of the input signal.
Example: To every amplifier gain corresponds a measurement input level range, within which the instrument maintains its accuracy specifications.

Amplitude
noun
Amplitude is the maximum value of current or voltage. ... It is represented by either of the two peaks of the since wave. This voltage level is also referred to as the peak voltage, and can be either positive or negative.
Example: These allow the professional to have an impression of the algorithms functioning together during quick changes in amplitude, frequency and phase.

Amplitude modulation

In amplitude modulation, it is the voltage level of the signal to be transmitted that changes the amplitude of the carrier in proportion, with no modulation, the AM carrier is transmitted by itself.
Example: A system of amplitude modulation requires higher transmitting powers but will allow more television channels.

Analog
noun
Electronic systems with a continuously variable signal, in contrast to digital electronics where signals usually take only two levels. The term "analogue" describes the proportional relationship between a signal and a voltage or current that represents the signal.

Analog frequency
noun
In an electrical signal, the voltage, current, or frequency of the signal may be varied to represent the information. Any information may be conveyed by an analog signal; such a signal may be a measured response to changes in a physical variable, such as sound, light, temperature, position, or pressure.
Example: The analog frequency command is monitored and when an abnormal condition is detected, an alarm signal is output.

Anode
noun
An anode is an electrode through which the conventional current enters into a polarized electrical device. This contrasts with a cathode, an electrode through which conventional current leaves an electrical device. A common mnemonic is ACID, for "anode current into device". The direction of conventional current (the flow of positive charges) in a circuit is opposite to the direction of electron flow, so (negatively charged) electrons flow out the anode of a galvanic cell, into an outside or external circuit connected to the cell. In both a galvanic cell and an electrolytic cell, the anode is the electrode at which the oxidation reaction occurs.
Example: The anode can be either a cone attached to the periphery of the cathode, through an insulator, or the chamber.

Breakdown voltage

Breakdown voltage is a characteristic of an insulator that defines the maximum voltage difference that can be applied across the material before the insulator conducts.
Example: The parasitic capacitance and high breakdown voltage of GaN HEMT them ideal for operation in modes of high-efficiency amplification

Calibration
noun
Calibration is a comparison between a known measurement (the standard) and the measurement using your instrument. Typically, the accuracy of the standard should be ten times the accuracy of the measuring device being tested. .

circuit
noun
A simple circuit definition is a closed loop of a conductor that electrons can travel around, usually consisting of a power source (a battery, for example) and an electrical component or device (like a resistor or a light bulb) and conducting wire.
Example: Some operate using one main circuit board working at one voltage whilst others have several working at different voltages that is very inefficient in terms of energy efficiency.

Continuous-Time Signals

A continuous-time (CT) signal is a function, s(t), that is defined for all time t contained in some interval on the real line. For historical reasons, CT signals are often called analog signals.
Example: Processing of continuous and discretely-timed signals. Specialised processors (DSP).

Discrete-Time Signals
noun
A discrete signal or discrete-time signal is a time series consisting of a sequence of quantities. Unlike a continuous-time signal, a discrete-time signal is not a function of a continuous argument; however, it may have been obtained by sampling from a continuous-time signal.
Example: We do have real-valued discrete-time signals like the sinusoid, but we also have signals that denote the sequence of characters typed on the keyboard.

measurement of some electric, magnetic, or electromagnetic quantity or of the relationships between such quantities characterizing the operation of electronic equipment over the range of frequencies from the infrasonic to the superhigh.
Example: The measure is required in order for you to continue to manage the investment in the system.

Are commonplace and unusual events that can be observed and that illuminate the principles of the physics of electricity and are explained by them. Electrical phenomena are a somewhat arbitrary division of electromagnetic phenomena.
Example: Simulation of electromagnetic phenomena facilitates designing electrical and electronic equipment where insulation is important.

Signal energy

The terms signal energy and signal power are used to characterize a signal. They are not actually measures of energy and power. The definition of signal energy and power refers to any signal ( )tx , including signals that take on complex values.
Example: Signal energy may be scattered from any of the ionospheric regions, both along the great-circle path and at other orientations

Signals

An electrical impulse or radio wave transmitted or received. A signal is an electromagnetic or electrical current that carries data from one system or network to another. In electronics, a signal is often a time-varying voltage that is also an electromagnetic wave carrying information, though it can take on other forms, such as current.
Example: The acoustic signal is transformed by the microphone into an electrical signal and amplified by the Pre-amplifier block integrated in the probe.

Systems

A set of connected pieces of equipment that work together, a set of things working together as parts of a mechanism or an interconnecting network.
Example: A telemedicine system was user-friendly and was similar to any other computerized electronic system.

This energy travels as electromagnetic waves at about the speed of light, which is 670,616,629 miles per hour,1 or 300 million meters per second. 2 However, the electrons themselves within the wave move more slowly. This concept is known as drift velocity.
Example: Magnitude and timescales for these events are substantially different depending on velocity and depth of the wave energy.
